Because the Generations Study is so large and is seen as so important by both Breast Cancer Now and The Institute of Cancer Research, they have established an Oversight Board, which includes senior individuals from Breast Cancer Now and The Institute, as well as independent scientists and women taking part in the study, to oversee the scientific conduct of the study and to consider participant viewpoint.
This committee ensures that the questionnaires and blood samples are used to maximum advantage to find the causes of breast cancer.
The Oversight Board is responsible for:
- The overall governance of the study.
- Ensuring that the integrity of the study is maintained and that it is appropriately managed over its life.
- Approving, where appropriate, research proposals to conduct scientific analyses using the data and samples collected in the study.
